East Penn is currently seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator who will be responsible for the day-to-day responsibilities related to environmental, health and safety operations associated with the Metals Division. The EHS Coordinator will work closely with the Corporate Environmental Health & Safety staff and facility personnel to achieve/maintain regulatory compliance and achieve/maintain corporate EHS programs.
Assists East Penn’s Environmental Health & Safety leadership with overseeing EHS programs, procedures, and reporting, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations and EPM standards.
Responsibilities include:
- EHS Training (Examples: Forklift, LO/TO, Confined Space)
- Conducts EHS Audits and corrective actions
- Assist in Facility Asset Protection
- Assist in Hazard Communication (SDS, Labels)
- Accident Investigation and Preventive Actions
- Chemical Exposure control (Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium, Sulfuric Acid, Ammonia)
- Assists with Process Safety Management and Risk Management programs
- Ergonomic evaluation and suggested controls
- Assist in Solid Waste Management
- Assist in Air Quality Permit Compliance
- CEM support
- PM support
- Assist in Water Quality/Storm Water Management
- Working knowledge of the EHS policies, programs and associated operating manuals
- Works closely with facility management to maintain a positive working environment and identify and address employee concerns in a timely manner
- Participates in administrative staff meetings
- Conducts inspections (scheduled and un-scheduled) of facilities, drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings (Examples: Hand hygiene checks, PPE audits, etc.)
- Maintains EHS system records and compiles necessary reports
- Assist in maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations
- Works with management and others on the investigation of incidents, including “near-misses” to identify root causes and the appropriate management/mitigation of hazards
- Maintains proper instrument calibration and operation; examines equipment and assesses the general condition, state of repair, level of maintenance and compliance with applicable environmental regulations, as required
- Collaborates with maintenance and production to coordinate and schedule onsite work done by vendors/contractors, as required
- Acts as liaison with contractors and consultants
- Actively participates in planning, development and execution of project plans, schedules and tasks for assigned projects
- Performs other duties as assigned
Experience & Qualifications
• 2 to 4 relevant experience supporting a manufacturing or distribution business is preferred
Education/Certification
• Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferred; equivalent level of education, training and experience may be considered
Skills & Competencies
• Proficient knowledge and understanding of environmental health and safety regulations and policies (i.e., EHS audits and corrective action, Facility Asset Protection, Hazard Communication, Accident Investigation and Preventive Actions, Ergonomics, Air/Water Quality Management and Compliance)
• Demonstrated experience and expertise in core environmental health & safety areas
• Proficient knowledge of technology and equipment used in environmental inspections
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing including presentation abilities
• Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills with the ability to analyze problems and formulate alternative/creative solutions to problems
• Adept in multi-tasking, prioritizing and managing time effectively
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy; can effectively listen and give details accurately
• Exceptional interpersonal skills; a team player with proven ability to work across functional areas and all levels of the organization
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Open to coaching with the ability to apply feedback
