Overview

East Penn is currently seeking a Regional Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to provide leadership to regional operations and is responsible for leading programs that protect people from environmental and workplace hazards.

 

Assist in the development, update and/or maintain EHS policies, programs, procedures and practices for regional operations.  

 

Program development and execution is based off the core programs developed at corporate location with potential adjustments for site specific operations

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Director of Environmental Affairs, the Safety and Health Director and their associated staff
  • Coaches Management team on EHS leadership, regulatory requirements and operational best practices
  • Audits Regional worksites for compliance with relevant EHS (OSHA, EPA, associated State/Local Agencies and/or industry specific) regulatory standards.  Conducts follow up actions to make sure any deficiencies are timely corrected
  • Supports management and employee initiatives to promote continuous improvement in EHS performance and accident prevention
  • Analyzes EHS data to identify trends and hazards requiring enhanced EHS controls
  • Accident/incident prevention, focus on root cause analysis to reduce risk
  • Recommend controls, corrective action and timely implement upon approval. Promote a safer work environment
  • Provides periodic status reports to regional and corporate management
  • High visibility and responsiveness to employee concerns and management support
  • Provide additional technical and administrative EHS support as assigned by management

 

Qualifications

Experience & Qualifications

 

  • 5+ years of experience in environmental health, health and safety and/or safety management
  • Prior experience in a senior professional level, supervisory, or management role required
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, or within a team environment in a managerial role

 

 

 

Education/Certifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in EHS or related field (science or engineering); equivalent level of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Professional certifications (CSP, CIH or equivalent), preferred

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal environmental and safety regulatory requirements
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and resolve issues or escalate appropriately for resolution
  • Ability to analyze problems and formulate alternative/creative solutions to problems
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; a team player with proven ability to work across functional areas and all levels of the organization
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills; builds positive working relationships with staff; can effectively lead, coach/mentor and develop EHS staff
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and delegate (when appropriate) in order to manage time efficiently and to meet deadlines
  • Self-starter; takes initiative, is alert to opportunities to contribute appropriately without being told; responsible for own time management and effectiveness 
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced and, at times, stressful environment
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required with ability to provide specification for other program systems
